The 5th edition of the European Capital of Innovation Awards will recognise European cities that have built the most dynamic and open innovation ecosystems. Cities that wish to apply must submit their applications by 6 June.
The call was launched in Athens, winner of iCapital 2018, at a conference organised by the Municipality to present the award to representatives of local groups and institutions that contributed to the victory. Mayor Giorgos Kaminis explained that the city will work on reinforcing the social innovation community in Athens and Europe, strengthen citizens’ trust and encouraging participatory democracy. The first part of the conference can be watched on Facebook.
Carlos Moedas, Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, officially launched this year's iCapital contest with a video address:
The European Capital of Innovation Awards are as much about using the most innovative ideas and tools, as about creating opportunities for citizens to participate and decide how their city is run. Past winners are true role models that inspire other cities all over the world. I look forward to seeing many applications from cities that are using ground-breaking solutions to solve their most pressing challenges and to improve lives of their inhabitants.”
