Global Covenant of Mayors - understanding how to plan for energy access, develop synergies and financing climate action

    Katowice, Multifunction Hall, Room 16
    Organiser: Others

This training organised by the Global Covenant of Mayors at event covers three key newly developed dimensions:

    - Learn how to increase energy access and alleviate energy poverty at city level suiting regional and local circumstances.

    - Provide insights into methods and instruments for financing local climate action.

    - Improve integrated planning for climate change mitigation and adaptation and air quality

Participants will approach crosscutting issues involved in the future of the city. In particular, develop on how energy access shapes the urban environment and the life of citizens, understand financing opportunities for pursuing urban sustainability and equality, and investigate how to contribute to improving air quality in urban areas in line with many priorities. With an interactive approach, participants have the chance to exchange with peers, share their experience and play a central role during the event.

    Objectives

Improve your Energy Access and Poverty monitoring and take action in alignment with SDG 7: Learn how to increase energy access and alleviate energy poverty at city level suiting regional and local circumstances.

By building upon the GCoM common framework for climate change mitigation and adaptation, the training focuses on the recently developed scientific approach for Energy Access and Poverty monitoring and taking action in alignment with SDG 7.

Provide insights into methods and instruments for financing local climate action taking into account regional differences and local specific contexts and opportunities. Learn how to fund services and infrastructure for a sustainable future, familiarising with available instruments for project preparation and implementation and for supporting long-term commitments.

Improve integrated planning for climate change mitigation and adaptation and air quality: Learn how to plan actions that reduce GHG emissions while improving air quality and tackling adaptation. Integrated action planning takes into account the co-benefits and trade-offs between mitigation and air quality in urban areas.
