Join our Covenant of Mayors events at EU Sustainable Energy Week 2018

eusewIn less than one month, the EU flagship event on the state of the clean energy transition in Europe is taking place in Brussels. Organised by the EU Commission between 4-8 June 2018, the EU Sustainable Energy Week 2018 (EUSEW) brings together all European energy transition players to discuss new policy developments, best practices and sustainable energy ideas.
This year, the European Covenant of Mayors will be present at 3 events during EUSEW, and also host a stand at the EU Commission Residence Palace together with the EU's Smart Cities initiative, the Smart Cities Information System (SCIS) and the European Innovation Partnership - Smart Cities & Communities (EIP-SCC). Find here below more info on our events at this year's EUSEW:

    - Wednesday 6 June, 09:00 - 10:30: "Energy Poverty - Inclusive Clean Energy Transition and Best Practice"
In cooperation with our partner, the European Energy Poverty Observatory (EPOV), this session discuss the challenge of achieving a clean energy transition that does not leave anyone behind. It will suggest a fairer approach to funding a low carbon energy system, and showcase how the local authorities have reduced CO2 emissions though measures that have also tackled energy poverty. The session will include a presentation of examples of local projects aiming at alleviating energy poverty from the Covenant of Mayors and beyond. The session will also be an opportunity to discuss available EU policy assistance, including the Energy Poverty Observatory and what is needed to make it more effective.

    - Thursday 7 June, 16:00 - 17:30: "Energy Union, Smart Cities and Covenant of Mayors - Matching Cities and Finance"

Linked to this event, the EIP-SCC team will present its new matchmaking platform, that will help cities to create and implement intelligent and sustainable urban solutions, whether they are just launching pre-feasibility studies or in a more advanced stage of the project lifecycle. It will provide help along three principal phases:

    1. Exploring possibilities – Cities will be able to learn more about funding and technological solutions available to them.

    2. Shaping opportunities – Cities will get guidance to improve early-stage proposals or ways to aggregate proposals to maximise impact and scale.

    3. Facilitating deals – Cities with concrete project proposals can submit them to the matchmaking platform where they will be matched with interested financiers.

The matchmaking platform will soon be launched on the EIP-SCC website, so stay tuned!

    - Thursday 7 June, 16:00 - 17:30: "The Impact of the Electrification of Bus Fleets on the Electricity System"
This session focuses on sharing best practices on the integration of electrified bus fleets into the electricity system. Particular challenges relate to recharging infrastructure deployment (depot charging, opportunity charging) and managing the impact on local electricity grids. Collaboration of transport operators and local distribution operators under a clear planning frame is important. The session showcases in real life examples how cities, transport operators and DSOs can work together to ensure that the electrification of bus fleets becomes a success and that it does not pose problems to the local grid.
